Military Draft System to be Tested

The agency is not gearing up for a draft, an agency official said Thursday. The test itself would not likely occur until 2009.

Selective Service "readiness exercise"
The system that randomly chooses draftees by birth date and the network of appeals boards that decide how to deal with conscientious objectors and others who want to delay reporting for duty, said Scott Campbell, Selective Service director for operations and chief information officer.

Will They Serve?
From the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, to today's Iraq, certain groups lack of military service has been a national disgrace.

The Vietnam War
It was 1968 and the Chicago Seven (Rubin, Ginsberg, Levine, Felder, Abbie Hoffman, etc), stormed the national convention. The young Jews shouted "No we won't go".

The Canadian Geese
After Americans demanded the lottery, the college kids at Brandeis, Penn, Yale, etc grew wings. Estimates rang up to 100,000 young Americans fled to Canada, and were known as the 'Yiddish Geese'.

The Vietnam Amnesty Bill
Ford signed a bill giving these draft dodgers amnesty.

Everyone Must Serve
If they start a draft, then everyone should be eligible. Grab these neocon hatchlings and stick them at the front of the line. Farm boys from Minnesota, blacks from Chicago, or Hispanics from Los Angeles. shouldn't be the only ones dying.
